The Band Dads Podcast
Band is more than music. It’s pressure, passion, leadership, chaos, life lessons, unforgettable moments… and a community unlike anything else.
The Band Dads Podcast pulls back the curtain on the world of marching band, concert band, music education, and the people who live it every day. Hosted by band dads — including a former band director bringing years of insider experience and perspective most parents never get access to — this podcast dives into the stories, challenges, victories, and culture that make band life so unique.
From rehearsals, competitions, road trips, fundraising, and late-nights in the band room to the decision-making, strategy, and behind-the-scenes realities of running a successful program, we explore the conversations happening both on and off the field. Leadership. Competition. Burnout. Growth. Success. Failure. Family. The emotional highs of performance and the hilarious realities nobody talks about enough.
Whether you’re a band kid, a proud parent, a music educator, or someone who simply loves hearing passionate people talk about the things that shape lives and build community, there’s something here for you.
New episodes feature honest discussions, interviews, deep dives into band culture, insider perspective, and plenty of humor along the way.
Because band isn’t just an activity. For many of us… it becomes part of who we are.

Everyone has an opinion about marching band. The Band Dads have a few they probably should've kept to themselves.
In this episode, Scott and Chris put each other on the spot with a series of surprise questions designed to uncover their most unfiltered hot takes about the activity we all love.
Should every student have the opportunity to march? Are BOA and DCI helping or hurting the activity? Do band directors work too many hours? When should family come before rehearsal? And is social media making marching band better or worse?
Those are the serious questions. Then things get a little ridiculous.
Which section would survive longest on a deserted island? Who has the best snacks? Which band stereotypes are actually true? What's the greatest band bus movie of all time? And seriously, what does Scott have against the trombones?
From thoughtful discussions about the future of music education to completely unnecessary debates about band kids and their quirks, the Band Dads cover a little bit of everything.
As always, it's a conversation filled with humor, healthy disagreement, and a genuine appreciation for the students who work incredibly hard to bring music, movement, and artistry together. We may question the activity, but we'll never question the incredible kids who make it happen.
And now it's your turn! What's YOUR marching band hot take? Have a controversial opinion, an unpopular perspective, or a question you'd love to put the Band Dads on the spot with?
Send it to feedback@banddadspodcast.com. Nothing is off the table, and your question might just make it into the next round of Hot Takes!
